Background Information
Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability
Target 7a: Integrate the principles of sustainable development into country policies and programmes; reverse loss of environmental resources

There are graffiti all around Tampico and it looks really bad. People that want to express themselves do it so get it all out by painting, but they just don’t think about what they are causing. Others just do it because of vandalism. The main causes of the problem are that this people don’t have a place to express themselves so they do it on the walls. This people need a specific place so they can show what they feel through painting. Maybe DIF is working on it but not as much as it needs because they still paint around Tampico.

Description of the Project
· How did you help locally to lessen the problem?
We helped to lessen the problem by selecting neighborhoods with many graffiti on their walls. When we arrived, everything was a mix of words, colors, and messy. We helped locally because we painted the neighbors in our city which we see everyday.
· Which was your target group? (beneficiary’s contact name, phone and address) Why?
Our target is the city and population of Tampico. All of the people who live in the places which were painted were the target group eventually.
· How did your project attend a need of your community?
The project attended a need for our community because the city everyday looks uglier with the all the graffiti covering houses, walls, and stairs. We needed this because a city cannot have the landscape of a messy place.
· Why do you think the theme of your project is important today?
The theme of the proyect is important today because it is a major issue in many places around the world. I think that if we make the point that we are going to clean the walls again and again even though people continue to paint them, eventually we can create a culture that respect the walls of people´s homes.
· What knowledge did the members of your group acquire?
The members of the groups acquired that people do notice the graffiti. People which homes had graffiti told us how they had ruined their walls, and how they have tried to stop them but haven´t been successful at it.
· Which skills did you gain?
We gained skills in communicating with poeple we don´t know. We also learned how it is really a hard labor to paint walls in the sun.
· What was/were your goal(s)?
Our goal is to ensure environmental sustainability in Tampico. We are going to try to paint over most of the graffiti that are on public walls. We achieved our goal because we painted many walls white again. We knoew we were successful because the people who lived nearby our job site congratulate us as examples for the youth.

Implementation
September 5, 2009- Phone call to someone in the municipal government to ask for permission and information.
(If we are allowed)
September 5, 2009- Phone call to Comex or other stores to ask about the prices.
September 7, 2009- Meeting with Ms. Pily to talk about information we got during the weekend.
September 8-30, 2009- Fund raising days. Selling at school during recess and break, in our neighborhoods and streets after school.
October 1, 2009- Meeting with Ms. Pily we present our advances and tell her our amount of money up to now.
October 2, 2009- Buy the first paints and brushes if we have enough money, it is a Friday after school dismissal.
October 3, 2009- Our first time out in the streets, we will first find our target places and record them so we have a goal to look up to.
October 5-9, 2009- A day of the week go and paint an area, after school or if it is not possible that weekend.
October 12-16, 2009- A day of the week go and paint an area, after school or if it is not possible that weekend.
October 17, 2009- Do more fund raising in the weekend.
October 19, 2009- Meet with Ms. Pily during recess to show her the things we have done.
*Continue the whole semester painting walls once a week all around Tampico. Continue doing fund raising activities because we may run out of money. If we have any question or want to show something to Ms. Pily we will go to her and talk. *
Conclusions
On our project there were enough participants, resources and enough time. While we were painting the walls of our city we had fun and we enjoy it. Even though we had a hard time painting the walls in the sunlight, it was fun and we learned lots of things. We learn to have companionship and with that we manage our time to paint lots of walls. We also learn that we always need to help our city and make it look more beautiful. The activity was relevant for the target group, we made Tampico a more beautiful city and without graffiti. We were not working with an organization, we made fun raising to buy the paint. The schedules, the time we took to paint the walls, the walls we painted, those things went well, the only thing that needs to improve for the next time is to make sure that all of us are working together at the same time.
